Wolfgang Schmitt's Curriculum Vitae


Wolfgang Schmitt began his career as a professional politician with the Alliance 90/ Greens party after taking a degree in social sciences and the arts. Beginning in the mid-eighties, he took on many leading functions in the party. From 1994 to 1998 he was a member of the Federal German Parliament, where he sat on the Committee for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Greens’ Working Group on International Politics and Human Rights. He distinguished himself as spokesperson for his parliamentary group on international financial, trade and economic policy.
As a former Marshall Memorial Fellow, Mr Schmitt is engaged in fostering German-American relations. Moreover, he is member of the German-Japanese Dialogue Forum and the Advisory Council for International Politics of the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
He has been a Managing Director of GTZ since January 2000.
