Prof. Dr. Ernst von WeizsaeckerScientific Committee, International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP), Germany
He is son of the physicist Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker and nephew of the former German President Richard von Weizsäcker. He wrote the books Factor Four: Doubling Wealth, Halving Resource Use (1995) and Limits to Privatization. He was founder and president (1991-2000) of the Wuppertal Institute and member of the Club of Rome since 2001. Since 1966 he is member of the SPD. Between 1998 and 2005 he was member of the German Parliament. He received the Takeda Award in 2001. He currently sits on the Advisor Board for the German Foundation for World Population. In 2005 he was appointed dean of the Donald Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara (source: Wikipedia). Born 25 June, 1939 in Zürich, Switzerland, studied Chemistry and Physics (1965 Diploma, Hamburg University) and Biology (Ph.D. Freiburg University, 1969). |
